Happy Healthy Cat Month

Did you know that September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month? Of course, we think our feline buddies should be happy and healthy every month. That said, this is a great time to look at your pet’s care regimen, and see if anything could use improvement. Read on as an Indianapolis, IN vet discusses keeping Fluffy happy and healthy.

Proper nutrition is crucial to your kitty’s health. Make sure that Fluffy is eating a good, nutritious diet. If your furball likes snacks, offer her healthy ones, such as canned tuna or plain, cooked chicken.

Pouncing, running and jumping are not only great fun for Fluffy, they’re also great exercise for her. Take a few minutes a day to play with your cat.

Kitties can get bored and restless with nothing to do all day. Offer your feline buddy plenty of toys to pounce on. While cats are much safer living indoors, you can offer your feline pal a good window seat, so she can look outside. Fluffy may also enjoy watching documentaries about birds or squirrels.

Cats are much happier with some things that are made just for them. Buy or make some kitty furniture for your pet. It’s also important to offer Fluffy lots of comfy beds and napping spots.

Scratching Posts

Your furry little pal needs a good nail care station. Get Fluffy a cat tower or a scratching post or board.

Vertical Space

Kitties love to climb to high spots, so they can get a good view of their kingdoms. Cat towers are a great option for this, but you can also look into wall-mounted furniture or catwalks.

Veterinary Care

Although Fluffy would probably rather take another nap than go to the vet’s, coming to see us is definitely in her best interests. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Want to really get your kitty’s motor going? Why not pamper her a bit? If you have a porch, sunroom, or patio, consider making it into a catio. A kitty garden is another great way to spoil your furball. (Tip: check the ASPCA site for suggestions.) Finally, pay lots of attention to Fluffy. Talk to her, pet her, and let her snuggle up on your lap if she wants.
