National Dog Week

Did you know that National Dog Week starts September 18th? While we think our canine friends should be celebrated all year long, this is a great time to talk about Fido, and offer some advice on his care. Below, a Greenwood, IN vet discusses Man’s Best Friend.

Adopting

Are you considering adopting a dog? That’s wonderful! There are far too many sweet pooches in need of loving homes. Just think carefully before making a final decision: adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment. If you are ready to adopt, please consider going to a shelter or rescue group. This is a wonderful way to get your new pet, and will also indirectly help other animals in need.

Caring For Fido

While dinnertime may be Fido’s favorite time of day, he’s also very fond of walks, playtime, and snuggles. Good doggy care goes far beyond these basics, however. Man’s Best Friend needs regular veterinary care to stay healthy. Grooming, nail trims, exercise, training, and toys are also very important to your pet’s health and well-being. Ask your vet for specific recommendations for your furry friend’s activity, diet, and veterinary care needs.

Lifelong Friendship

Fido has stood loyally beside his human friends for thousands of years. While we originally domesticated dogs for help with herding, hunting, and protecting our homes, our canine companions have truly gone above and beyond. There are many amazing stories of dogs that have saved their human buddies from danger, and of pups that have truly changed their owners’ lives. Our canine pals’ unconditional love, unwavering loyalty, and complete devotion are beautiful and special gifts!

Pampering The Pooch

This is a great time to spoil your pup! Get Fido a new toy, or indulge him with a special treat or a fun adventure to a park. A new bed is another great way to celebrate this special week. You can also teach your canine friend a new trick, or just spend some time getting some great pictures of your furry best bud.

Tail Wags

While toys and treats are bound to get that cute tail going, at the end of the day, Fido really only wants to spend time with his human buddies. Cherish your canine buddy’s loyalty and friendship, and spend time with him every day.
